'The Time Hunters and the Box of Eternity' - OUT NOW

Hi all,

It brings me great pleasure to announce that The Time Hunters and the Box of Eternity (Book 2 in the acclaimed series for children of all ages ...) is now available on the Kindle/Smashwords and in paperback

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hunters-Eternity-acclaimed-children-ebook/dp/B006H9NTJC/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1322921931&sr=1-1

Here's the blurb:

'The Time Hunters and the Box of Eternity' is the second in the bestselling Time Hunters saga.

Becky and Joe Mellor return to Bowen Hall for the half term holidays to find things are as unusual as ever. Of course, that's to be expected when you're sharing a stately home with a dinosaur, a winged horse, two sabre-tooth tigers, Will Scarlet and Bowen Hall's latest resident - a dodo named Deirdre. Things, however, get more intriguing when American time traveller, Bruce Westbrook, arrives with two gold doubloons that seem to possess strange, supernatural powers.

So begins a thrilling adventure that leads Becky, Joe, Uncle Percy and Will to 1920s Chicago, Victorian Edinburgh and the 18th Century Caribbean - battling gangsters, pirates, sea-monsters and zombie sharks on a quest for the legendary Pandora's Box ...

The clock is still ticking ...

Many thanks,
Carl

'THE TIME HUNTERS' NEW COVER ...

Hi all,

I've not released this anywhere yet, but (with the second book being released next week) I've been thinking about doing some repackaging. With that in mind, I've created a more adult cover. If anyone has a moment to let me know what they think, then please tell me either here or in the forums. I haven't even uploaded to Amazon yet.

With less than a month until its release, I'm delighted to share the cover for the 2nd TH book with you. And here it is :

TH2 - to be completed by the end of this month ...

I'm entering a very exciting stage in the writing of 'The Time Hunters and the Box of Eternity'. The first draft is nearly complete, and it's a pretty tight draft so I'm still very much on for my self-imposed release date in December. Not only is it a longer book than the first one, but  I've really increased the action quotient, too. I hope some of you will consider it a nice Xmas present :)

TH2 - Now longer than 'The Time Hunters'

I just thought I'd keep people updated with my progress regarding 'The Time Hunters and the Box of Eternity'. It is now officially a longer book than the first one (at 52000 words) and there's still a bit to go. However, at the moment my characters are on a pirate ship called 'The Black Head.' Inevitably, I am wallowing in 'zit' jokes ...

TH2 - Update ...

'The Time Hunters and the Box of Eternity' is now at 47000 words and I'm entering the final stretch (it should probably be about 60000 words in total). I'm having lots of fun in the pirate world - with characters like Doublehook, Blind Hugh, Battle-Axe Beattie, Will Turnip (Yeah, a play on Will Turner!)  and Stinky Mo, the no-nosed bucanneer, it's hard not to have fun :)

I hope people enjoy it.

LEARN ME GOODER - by John Pearson

If you've not read 'Learn me Good' yet  then you really should. It's great. As well as a writer, I'm also a lecturer and so many of my experiences are reflected in this very funny book. I'm also reliably informed that the sequel 'Learn me Gooder' is due to be released in the next few days. Personally, I can't wait. The very best of luck with it, John. I'm a fan :)

The TH2 teaser

Hi all,

Here I am  in sunny France and working hard on the second Time Hunters novel (as well as spending quality time with Alice and drinking copious amounts of vin rouge.) Anyway, I'm still on schedule for the December release and thought I'd release a teaser poster.

A big thanks to the CAFC in America.

Two more five star reviews today for 'The Time Hunters'

I am delighted to announce that 'The Time Hunters' has received another two five star reviews in the last twenty four hours.

HERE'S THE FIRST::

Want a fun, fast paced, engaging story with unique locations & great characters? Then this is a book you should definitely check out. I'm not in it's target audience (40's); but I found it a terrific read regardless.

Ashmore takes the time-travel concept & puts a unique spin on it. He certainly steps "out of the box" in the places the reader is taken to. It's not the same old, same old. I won't give a plot summary; but just state the characters are ones the reader quickly warms to because of their genuine realism & believability. The story is tight & well written. There's action, adventure, humor & a little 'growing up' for the younger characters, particularly Becky. I was never exposed to Mythology in Elementary or Junior High School & this is a terrific way to spur the kids' interest.

I think this could be the start of a terrific series. It would be fascinating to watch & see the characters age & mature (like in the Harry Potter books). What a fantastic opportunity to follow where & how their adventures would change in tone & scope. Great book. You can't go wrong here.

AND THE SECOND:

Got this for Christmas for my eight-year-old niece and she loved it. I had to explain a few things to her since she's probably not quite the target audience, but even with that she had a great deal of fun. It was a lovely story with interesting characters and I'd buy the next book in the series.

Thanks to JScott and Charming Cross. You are both enormously kind :)

Cheers,
Carl

New 5 star review from America

I'd like to say a huge thank you to John Lindenberger in America for his wonderful review on Amazon.com. I feel hugely honoured that not only do people find the time to write such reviews, but they seem to be truly enjoying the book. So far, 'The Time Hunters' has received 56 out of 65 five star reviews both here and in the States.

Anyway, here's John's review:

Having read several time travel stories, I'm always skeptical when I read one that attempts to rewrite history or show that the past is not quite what we imagined. However, I think Carl Ashmore does a fabulous job of creating an alternative history (myth?) that is not only believable but engaging. I'm definitely adding this book to my top ten list of favorite time travel books. "The Time Hunters" has some great characters (Edgar is my favorite) and plenty of action. I actually found this book to be a real page turner, which was a pleasant surprise considering it is young adult fiction. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Cheers, John.

Carl :)

'The Time Hunters and the Box of Eternity' due Christmas 2011 ...

By now, I hope some of you have found your way to reading the first chapter of 'The Time Hunters and the Box of Eternity.' If not, it's over there on the left ... go on, have a look .... It won't hurt, I promise ...Well, maybe a little ... Err, nah, who am I kidding? ...

Anyway, a few people have told me that the opening chapter suggests that the book seems somewhat  darker than 'The Time Hunters'. All I can say is yes, it may be to some extent. But, like any second chapter in a series (there will be 5), the stakes have inevitably risen as a result of what happens in the first book. And what I will say, is that some of the villains in the second book are about as nasty as you can get. Infact, what with Otto Kruger, George Chapman (Google if you have to), Double-Hook (first time he's been mentioned anywhere) and some mighty fine monsters then the book has baddies to suit all wicked tastes.

I also hope it will be lots of fun. I mean there's optomediaphibic folios, Memorasers, zombie sharks, pirates galore, a hitherto unknown Van Gogh painting, a time travelling American biker, the largest sea creature to have ever existed, and real ale called 'Old Noggin.'

The clock is still ticking ...

Hi Bloggy noggers ...

This is my first attempt at a blog, and I intend to use it in a variety of ways. Obviously, it is a means of promotion for my books 'The Time Hunters', 'Bernard and the Bibble' and 'The Night They Nicked Saint Nick' but I hope it's more than that, for me, my readers and for fellow writers. I shall also use it to keep readers informed about my progress on 'The Time Hunters and the Box of Eternity' (the first draft of chapter one is available on this blog),  the second book in 'The Time Hunters' saga.

I really can't believe the universally positive response to 'The Time Hunters.' Not only have sales been more than I could have hoped (particularly for a children's book) but the reviews have been staggering. As of today, Saturday 7th May 2011, it has had 37 out of 41 five star reviews on Amazon.co.uk  for a 4.9 out of 5.00 reader average. I'm just overwhelmed by this, and I thank everyone who has taken the time to add a review. I've had emails from teachers across the world ( well, America, Australia, Denmark and New Zealand to name a few) saying how much they and their pupils have enjoyed the book.

I also wish to use the blog to help promote other indie writers, particularly of children's fiction. With very few exceptions, they're a smashing bunch and work really hard to get noticed. If I can help them, I will.

Finally, I intend to use the blog to throw in a few things about me and mine. After all, I'm a proud forty something dad to the most stunning daughter, Alice, and a lecturer at a college in Stoke on Trent, surely the most staggeringly beautiful city in the world :)

Anyway, that's enough for now.

Cheers for popping by,
Carl

Oh, and thanks to Lisa for designing this whole bloggy thing. Frankly, it was far too technical for me to get my tiny brain around.

NB: Just for a bit of fun, I shall be dropping clues/puzzles as to what happens in 'The Time Hunters and the Box of Eternity' all over the blog. So keep your eyes peeled...
